The OK Supreme Long Distance Trial - 25th Sep 2005
Report by Ben Falconer (Photos to come)
The Stratford MCC's OK Supreme LDT turned out to be a bit easy but that's because the organisers marked it expecting rain that never came. Never-the-less, the field of more than 100 covered some super territory mainly in the South Midland Centre but a bit in the very northern reaches of the known universe, ie: the Western Centre.
It was the third round of the new ACU/TBM trail bike LDT champs and initial reports suggested it was a bit on the easy side, although as most sections were "no inspect", riders had to keep their wits about them and follow the section markers closely.
The first real test was at Meon Hill, a dramatic setting for a dramatic hillclimb section which must have been a 1:3 in places.
The route of around 60 miles meandered through some cracking lanes, while the two best groups of sections were found at Saintbury and Dovedale, where trials have called by since the Western Centre appeared in the Domesday Book.
The result at the top was the same as the last championship round - Wyegate winner Julian Page went clean and was quickest on the test.
Initial reports from West Glos members were that Colin Davis had relinquished the famous Davis Cup to his brother Robert, Jack Pegler struggled to read the markers, Stan Howitt dropped just 5, Goff Hannam only 3 and Roy Breakwell a few more than that because he wanted harder sections to give him something to think about. Darren Thomas was reflecting on the event with a few Stellas with the Davis brothers but none could remember what they lost. Tony Falconer, Cliff Hannam and Dave Harris were likewise but they should be in the right half of the results. Your writer, for what it's worth, dropped one daft one, which was one too many as it turned out.
The organisers confirmed the top few but we await the full results.
