Moor to Sea Trial Oct 2010

Words: Ben Falconer Photos: Tony Falconer

Ben F ventured to Devon with the CHG and WG LDT crowd for a great day out on the moors and by the sea... The West of England MC's annual Moor to Sea (or More to See) LDT is a must-do regardless of its ACU Trailbike Trials Champs status.

At the sharp end were Paul Sargent and Gavin Moore, fighting it out for the title. A little further down the table, there was us lot, engaged in our own contest for bragging rights on the day. First of all, we got our excuses in. They included losing a brake pedal, too much cider the night before, and getting lost in sections (not the club's fault, rider error). Best excuse and most valid was Chris Harvey's. Typically breaking the Pampera's shock didn't stop him from finishing. Now we know why he normally rides a rigid!

There was plenty of opportunity for taking the pee - inexplicably I was down in the start list and results as Bill which caused no end of hilarity.

Next for the gyp was the Gloucestershire LDT crew's latest recruit on his Montesa Evasion. Despite factory fitted lights and pillion footpeg brackets, he had "it's a trialsbike with a tank" ringing in his ears all day. We're all jealous that he got a great trailbike in such good nick! Expect to see it at the Wyegate.

We all rode pretty tidily from time to time, with only a handful covering us all. Also out from the West Glos club were the Worgans - looked like they picked a cracking spot in the middle of a housing estate to change a tube - along with Bill and Stan, and Ian Wixon, who didn't have to rely on any pieces of tree to hold bits of the Triumph on this time.

Keith won bragging rights on 11 - the same as two rather good trials riders who rode EXC's in the class for enduro bikes on the championship route. Which puts our marks rather in to perspective...

Entry, including insurance and a fantastic choice of hot meals at the end, all for about 30-odd quid. Bargain!

Well marked, good road book, and sections marked up with names and numbers. You can see who got bragging rights in the Results

Well done to Paul Sargent for most likely winning the title, and bad luck to Gavin Moore, who proved he's human after all.
