March Hare - Golden Valley 5 March 2006

Report by Ben Falconer (2005 2004)

West Glos riders were very well represented at the March Hare and they were not disappointed with a magnificent event.

Private woodland going and a few RoW kept sealed road miles to a minimum. So who did what?

Goff's Ebay Bultaco took him round for a very respectable 23 on the hard route. In the chairs, the Hannam/Smith West Glos/CHG dream team shook off a few cobwebs with 3rd on 43. Ian wasn't particularly impressed with the ride but it's worth pointing out that they beat the Beechings, the winners of December's Sidecargate.

Stan and Zoe had a hard day, riding a trail outfit on trials sections. In the afternoon, until the last section they had maximumed every section bar one, for a three but showed fighting spirit with a clean at the last hazard.

Most of us were in the trailbike classes, which followed the sidecar and rigid route (unless riders elected to ride the hard route but not see that in the results).

Simon Wynne, the Falconer's riding companion and resident of Gretton, the home of the Barrett trial, placed 5th in the 250 class on 6.

Jimmy and Jack lost 23 and 41 respectively, the club president carded 27 (serow), Tony F 46 (all Pampera), Darren T 55 (Serow), and Robert Davis (Tricker) retired after six sections.

He got a bit further than Dave Pinney who binned his Gas Gas 400 fairly early on and judging by the photographic evidence was fortunate to escape fairly unscathed. Sadly the same could not be said of his bike. Glenn T was also forced out at this stage.

Those 2 rode in the over 250 trail class where Ben F lost 2 (Pampera). That performance was put in perspective by Jason Eylett's stunning loss of just 6 aboard an XT660! And he recorded FTD on the special test, beating Ben by 1/2 sec. I think that's what they call a moral victory.
