Redmarley Freak Hill Climb 2005

Words and Photos by Ben Falconer

For those of us who were not at the Carnival of Transport in Coleford, it was a chance to see Neil Hannam give his 1955 Tribsa what was believed to be its first competitive run.

Practice proved better for Neil than the racing itself because when the flag dropped for real the back tyre grabbed a bit more grip on the wire mesh start than he expected and he showed off the underside of the bike to all and sundry, then got his goggleless face filled in by the other three riders.

Fair play to Neil for hammering a 50-year-old bike up the famous hill, which took its fair share of victims under sunny skies in a glorious corner of England.

Results to come but we do know that Arthur Browning took his Jawa Metisse to victory in the over 350 class.
