Report from Steve Biddle
We've just got these notes through from Steve who was our sole representative at MidWTRA's Ceri Hare & Hounds. Also, now the results are in we know Steve came 6th in the Clubman Ironman doing 11 laps.
I was meant to be doing Bob Mullin's Enduro (SWEAT Club) at blackwood but this was cancelled due to lack of interest, so I got a late entry with MWTRA, entering the 4hr Ironman class instead of 2 man team job.
When I got to the lane up to the Ceri forest there was a really big cue of vans, the lane was just one big sheet of ice! After a lot of messing about I got there but very late. Fortunately the start was now 10:30 instead of 10:00. Because I was on my own had to carry all the kit down so I was running late. It was a le man style start and I was 3 mins late starting. I was riding my KX 250 so I was on 3 fuel stops on the 5.5 mile lap course.
The going was very muddy, rooty and quite tough. I got going and made up a bit of time. My goggles got covered and I chucked them in the pits. Next lap I had a big stone hit me in the eye, it was bleeding quite bad but I carried on best I could. There was a lot of retirements on the first lap. Faces seen were Steve Ireland, Andy Cripps. After the 2hrs the 2nd riders came out and held me up a bit especially on the hill climbs. I did the 4 hrs and finished, transponded out, and packed up. Brilliant event all round and the bike survived.
