The weather forecast was a bit dodgy, heavy showers for later in the day, and no-one likes a wet Corinium! I arrived just after 8, and met up with Gavin, and soon after Anthony and Martin. Sign-on and scrutineering were straightforward and the sausage and bacon butty was excellent!
The sky was still bright when we started, and the first lap showed a relatively dry(ish) course set out through the parkland. It seemed to be mostly the interesting nadgery stuff with a minimum of going on the fairways and tracks.
There were 2 separate tests, both on lap 2. there was some queuing at the start of the 2nd test which gobbled up a fair bit of the 'going' time, but it was a nice change to ride proper long enduro tests instead of the MX type tests on some other events.
On lap 3, it started to rain. Not a lot, but enough to transform some of the route, particularly the open tracks, into slippery gripless greasy slides. I have to confess I struggle a bit in such conditions, so had lost about 10 mins by the end of lap 3, but at least the rain had stopped.
The last lap wasn't so bad surprisingly. The test 1 loop had been cut, and the slippery stuff had even dried up a bit! However, old age and a general knackerdness had now kicked in, so I rode steadily around to finish as probably the last clubman on the course!
Altogether, a thoroughly enjoyable event. Started at 10:20 and finished about 15:45 with only about 20 mins of breaks in that time - felt like I'd done 2 Hare and Hounds back to back!!
Many thanks to the Swindon club for an excellent event, and to the land owner for allowing us to play in the park again.
