Explanation of the process
Overview - You need to read and understand what you are entering, this is all contained on the Supplementary Regulation (Regs). You then send a completed Entry Form to the Event Secretary by email. The Sec then checks it through. The Event Sec then issues a Reference Code for you to enter during the payment process. During the payment process you get taken to the secure PayPal website where you can pay with credit/debit cards. The sec automatically gets told you have paid and confirms your entry on the Entry List and that is it. Read on for details.
The process in depth
1. Check you have access to the following
2.Locate the correct page for the event on this site. Double check you have the right year. |
3. Look for a link to the Supplementary Regulations. This is usually on the right-hand side. |
![]() |
4. Click on the Regs link and you should get a page showing the text. This is an Adobe Acrobat PDF document. This means it should be accessible from any type of computer and if you have a printer then you should be able to print it out so it looks exactly like it does on the screen. (Wait.. we don't mean do so now, In fact don't waste your time printing it at all as you will still be able to click on the link until the event is over. Unless you want a copy for your records.) |
![]() |
| 5. Read and understand the regs. The full details of the National sporting code identified in them can be read on the ACU's own website www.acu.org.uk even if you haven't joined yet. or go straight to the Full Handbook in PDF format (16MB) |
Full ACU Handbook including National Sporting Code and each discipline's rules |
| 6. Now locate the On-Line Entry Form which will be linked near the Regs. Note that the PDF Entry Form version is for riders entering by Post. On-Line entries just need text copied into an email. If you can't see the link then scroll down the page looking for the heading 'Enter On-line'. |
| 7. Locate the email address you need to send it to on the event's web page, (Typically eventsec@wgdfmcc.org.uk), then either click on the link if your computer has an email program installed and set up, or, open your chosen email program and create a new email and enter the 'To' address and Subject. |
| 8. Now Copy and Paste the text for the Entry Form into the email body. |
| 10. Now Read the text and fill in where appropriate where marked '...?' paying particular attention to those marked with a star '*' as these are required information. If you don't fill them in correctly your entry may get returned to you. When you are sure it is completed then send. Note: You will be asked to sign your agreement at signing on. |
11. The Entry Sec will check your Entry Details and either send back for correction or issue a reference code which will be emailed back to you for you to complete the payment process. If you don't receive any response for a few days, remember that Entry sec is not a full time job and it will depend on when they can access their email. If your name is listed on the website but not confirmed then you are halfway there. Perhaps send a question if still nothing after a few days. |
| 12. When you receive the Reference Code, something like 'FredBloggs Wyegate 00123456', then you can start the payment process. You will find the boxes to fill in on the event page. |
![]() |
| 13. Choose which Entry Option is required using the little arrow to the right of the box. then put the cursor in the Code box and type in the Ref Code supplied. Now you can press the 'Add to Cart' button. This will take you to our page on the Paypal site. Note: you may also pay for other riders (friends presumably!) entries by repeating this process, don't forget to change the entry option and the Ref Code before adding to your Cart. (You should be able to remove items from your Cart if you make a mistake.) |
![]() |
| 14. Now you can view Paypal's information about security and what it is you will be paying for and how much. You should double check the quantity before pressing 'Proceed to Checkout'. (We do not control how this page looks or have access to any of the information you type in here.) |
![]() ![]() |
| 15. You will be able to see the payment method options and information about them after you proceed. You do not need to have an account with Paypal as there is an option to make a one-off transaction as well as use an existing account. |
![]() |
| 16. Once you've paid, Paypal will confirm to you and to the Sec and the Entry List will be updated to show confirmed as soon as the Entry Sec gets the email and has time to update. All you need to do now is bring your ACU Licence and yourself (and Bike) to the event. Sign-on and that is it. |

Frequently Asked Questions
You have read through our Explanation of the Process as well haven't you?
What? Your question isn't answered? - OK send us your question. (admin@wgdfmcc.org.uk)
How do I copy and Paste?
This is not the time to start computer lessons when something more important is at stake - 'Getting an Entry.' Perhaps you should post of your entry then practice your emailing and keyboard skills at your leisure!
What happens if I need to cancel my entry?
Normally we can refund entries less an administration fee. With On-line entries it will be the same but the process may be delayed while the bank confirms the original funds really have been received. You can receive refunds back into a Paypal account. Contact the Event Secretary for details as soon as you know you can't make it. After a certain time, no refund is possible. This is not a scam, it takes time effort and money to run events whether you turn up or not!
Where can I find more information about PayPal?
Here is a direct link to ' All about PayPal.
I've pressed 'Add to Cart' before entering the Ref Code. What do I do?
You can change things in your cart before pressing Pay Now, so
Only press 'Proceed to Checkout' when you have a valid reference number then complete the payment process.
Why can't I enter my details and pay all in one transaction like when I'm buying things on the web?
We need to see your entry is completed properly before authorising it. We also have a right to refuse your entry, so this confirmation process allows us to do that.
The value isn't correct in PayPal?
You are given the option to change the quantity (it may be 2 if you pressed the 'Add to Cart' button more than once!) Then you can press the 'Update Cart' button and the price will change. You may also have added extra lines unintentionally, you can delete them by ticking the 'Remove' box then pressing 'Update Cart'. If it is still wrong then check you are using the correct event page.
